Rolls of translucent masking tape made from smooth rice paper with an soft adhesive that's sticky enough to hold onto paper, but not so sticky that you'll rip the page when it's ready to come off. Like masking tape, this is easy to write on, so it's great for taking notes, marking pages, or labeling file folders and containers. The subtlety of shade in these tapes is all too often missing from office and crafts equipment. These versatile tapes will continue to suggest uses far beyond what you originally got it for. It’s easily repositioned without losing stick, but doesn’t peel off when you don’t want it to. It can be torn by hand without a lot of huffing, puffing, stretching and straining. Each set of five comes with five colors. (Please choose a set from the drop-down menu.) Dark set: olive, brown, violet, dark turquoise and dark red. Light set: Grey-blue, bamboo green, light teal, beige and grey. Each roll is 15 mm wide and 10 meters long.
Meant for offices and craft use, the Japanese company that makes this worked long and hard to get a formulation that sticks, but peels off without damaging the surface or leaving a sticky residue. Use it on any paper (books, loose sheets, magazines, card stock), or to label glass containers and other surfaces. This isn't a weight-bearing tape, and it's also best not to use it for sealing envelopes and boxes that have to go through the postal system.
Making full use of rice paper's singular properties, the company that makes these took the concept of masking tape once the sturdy, inelegant preserve of construction sites, workshops and studios and turned it into a staple of Japanese stationery boxes. Washi (literally "Japanese paper") was traditionally produced by farmers in the dead of winter, a perfect symbiosis of agricultural downtime and ready availability of the near-freezing water required to make the fibers contract (which produces the paper's crisp quality). Natural rubber is blended with synthetic rubber to make the glue. The rice paper is then dyed and rolled through the glue mixture, adding a stripping agent to the frontside to facilitate easier pulling.
Set of 5 tapes that peel off paper, so it can be used to mark pages in books and files, or as a decorative tape. Comes in 5 muted, dark shades or 5 light ones. Made in Japan.
