Which makes us absolutely adore Bruce White’s stunning, made-to-order chairs, which he welds together entirely from reclaimed horseshoes.

“Horse shoes are crafted under extreme conditions, such as heat and force, to be used by a horse throughout its daily life,” says the New Hampshire-based craftsman. “It’s a challenge and an art to apply horseshoes together in a new, comfortable and designed application.”

Though sturdy enough to be kept outdoors year-round, White’s chairs look equally striking indoors—we have one in the AHAlife loft and can attest that every single person who steps out of the elevator comments on it. And that’s in the middle of New York City, not in horse country. So it wasn’t surprising to hear that White’s clients range from horse breeders to design lovers.

The fun and functional Rocker always makes us think of sitting on the porch with a mint julep in our hand. Despite its all-metal construction, it's really comfortable. We love that these chairs take a discarded utilitarian object and reinterpret it into something beautiful. But we also appreciate the horseshoe’s other meaning, that of a symbol of good luck.
