THE STORY
Sisters Romaan and Saifra Zia launched their line, which they named after the daughters they hope to have one day, in January 2010, after both were laid off from their banking jobs. In reality, though, their roots in the fashion industry go back to the 1970s, when their father, a textile engineer, designed a handbag line that was sold at B. Altman, Lord & Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue. Each of their bags incorporates a wave design to symbolize balance and the ups and downs of life. Within weeks of launching Nyla Noor, the sisters were named “accessories designers to watch” by Women’s Wear Daily.
