Water Drop Jug
By Esque StudioEsque Studio's most iconic work, this series of jugs was designed in 2000. The jugs combine tops that are thick and polished and sides that are thin and transparent to form a falling drop of water.
THE STORY
Esque Studio is the result of a 15-year long collaboration between artists Andi Kovel and Justin Parker. The name Esque refers to the suffix meaning “in the manor of,” and is an intentional nod to and acknowledgment of outside influences and inspiration.
The duo met in Brooklyn at the public glass studio, Urban Glass, where they worked as artists for hire for elite fine artists and designers. Their shared vision and aspiration gave birth to Esque, with the concept of creating modern, functional, concept-based glassware aimed at the design industry and away from the pedestal.
Through the years, Kovel and Parker have lead the movement of trend in glass, by breaking the rules and outdated notions of craft and material associated with their medium. They've risen to international acclaim, most notably with the honor of being named part of Time Magazine’s “design 100,” today’s most influential and inspired international designers. They've collaborated with everyone–from Stumptown Coffee, for whom they designed a coffee shop in Portland’s Ace Hotel, to Lenny Kravitz, who commissioned the glass for his Miami pad from Esque–and have completed projects for Donna Karen, Ralph Lauren, The W Hotel, Hugo Boss, Anthropologie, Sephora, and Design Within Reach.
