About Ghurka

As far as namesakes go, the Ghurkas are stellar. Nepalese troops who fought for the British, Ghurkas are renowned for their exceptional bravery and loyalty. One former chief of staff of the British army, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, said, “If a man says he is not afraid of dying he is either lying or a Ghurka.”

Inspired by their reputation (and just possibly by their snazzy uniforms), Marley Hodgson named his fledgling leather goods firm after them back in 1975. From the beginning, Hodgson knew what he wanted to make: High quality bags that evoked the patrician style of the Raj.
