About Geoffrey Beene

Geoffrey Beene was one of the most innovative American designers of the 1960s and ’70s. Amongst his most memorable designs were his sequined football jersey evening gowns of 1967 and his pinstripe “Mafia” collection of 1968. He was renowned for his impeccable tailoring. Beene was also famous for his long-running feud with former Women’s Wear Daily publisher John Fairchild, who banned him from the publication.
