Call us traditional, but as far as we’re concerned, nothing says romance like Paris. But, if you can’t whisk your sweetheart away for a weekend of seduction, shopping and Champagne this Valentine’s Day, we’ve got the next best thing: Breakfast in Bed and Evening Celebration food baskets from Fauchon.
Fauchon is the Parisian grocer that is to gastronomy what Rolls Royce is to the internal combustion engine—i.e., the crème de la crème, a favorite of the wealthy and the wellborn. It’s such a well-established symbol of aristocratic taste that in 1968, when student radicals were fighting in the streets of Paris, they stormed Fauchon’s place de la Madeleine shop and, in a fabulously extravagant let-them-eat-cake gesture, distributed foie gras to the hoi polloi.
But we digress; back to the food. Breakfast in Bed is everything you could want for an intimate morning tête à tête: Fauchon’s signature coffee blend; a lovely An Afternoon in Paris tea that’s delicately scented with vanilla and orange; a spicy strawberry jam; and a jar of rosebuds that you can use to make a fragrant tisane or—if you’re feeling especially decadent—scatter in a bath. Have a basket of warm croissants ready and your day is off to a lovely start.
At the end of the day, Evening Celebration is ideal for nibbling on before heading out for a romantic dinner. It includes a heart-shaped (but chic!) tin of dark and milk chocolate and a box of crunchy cheese biscuits. Add a bottle of Veuve Cliquot , scribble a brief love note, and you’re set. If only everything in life was this easy.
