In 1924, the Dutch architect Gerrit Rietveld received an unusual commission: He was asked to create a house without walls. The design he came up with, the Rietveld Shröder House in Utrecht, is now considered a masterpiece of the De Stijl movement. The form-shattering Shröder House is the inspiration for this modernist toy from Brinca Dada, which reinvents the accepted dollhouse form. More than just a pretty façade, its flowing space invites play whether the house is open or closed, while its CARB-certified wood and non-toxic, lead-free paints and stains make it kid- and eco-friendly. “Toys should be beautiful and fun,” say Brinca Dada founders Doug Rollins and Tim Boyle. “That’s why we design toys that parents love to look at and children love to play with.”
